FREEDOM AND ROAM UGANDA

BACKGROUND

Freedom and Roam Uganda (FARUG) is a Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LBTI) diverse persons and women’s rights organization based in Uganda and established in 2003.We are a registered member based organization, with a secretariat in Kampala. FARUG is also a feminist organization that reinforces feminist culture and principles, equality of women as stipulated in the human rights and international instruments as ratified and the constitution. We recognize diversity. Most of our members are women who are also marginalized. We challenge male chauvinism, patriarchy and cultures that aim at oppressing women according to the constitution. We create women autonomous spaces and challenge heterenomativity and forge sisterhood solidarity. FARUG is one of the oldest and solely a Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (men) and Intersex persons that has been actively leading on organizing on sexual orientation and gender identity through lobbying, dialogue to create and facilitate greater visibility and voice.

WHAT WE DO

Membership development:
We are a membership based organization and our membership is open to Lesbians, Bisexuals, Transgender, Intersex persons and women sleeping with women.

Advocacy and lobbying
We carry out advocacy for the rights, freedoms and protection of LBTI persons regionally, nationally and internationally.
Institutional development
We are registered organization with skilled and competent staff. As an organization we front health and wellbeing, skills and capacity building amongst others for our members.

Vision statement:
A society in which the rights, freedom and equality of LBTI people are guaranteed and there is no discrimination based on sexuality or gender identity.
Mission statement:
To empower LBTI persons in Uganda and jointly advocate for the respect, protection and fulfillment of their rights.
Goal:
A healthy and vibrant LBTI community that is respected, well informed, competent, and committed to individual and community development.
