According to GLAAD, “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver focused on how far the United States has come in terms of LGBT equality, especially compared to other countries like Uganda. Oliver briefly discussed some of the anti-gay laws in Uganda, and then welcomed Pepe Onziema, a transgender Ugandan human rights activist (and SMUG Programs Director / Advocacy Officer). The audience saw a few clips of Onziema on a Ugandan morning show, where he admirably maintained composure while being questioned and simultaneously insulted by the uneducated host.”
