Hon Justice Patricia Basaza Wasswa has adjourned the case where Sexual Minorities Uganda-SMUG is suing Uganda Registration Services Bureau-URSB for refusal to reserve the name Sexual Minorities Uganda-SMUG.
Counsels representing SMUG namely Counsel Ladislaus Rwakafuuzi and Counsel Patricia Kimera are expected to file written submissions on the 15th of May 2017. In these submissions the counsel in today’s case agreed to file written submissions which shall include pleading by 15th May 2017 response by 22nd May 2017 and a rejoinder by 29th May 2017. Hon Justice Patricia Basaza Wasswa set the 30th May 2017 as the date for mentioning of the case. Here the judge basically hears and pronounces herself on the matter.
Earlier the judge adjourned the case to 11:00AM to dispose off an urgent matter. Counsel Vincent Katustsi the respondent also came in late and the judge gave him some time to “catch his breath” and peruse though his files so he would be ready to proceed.
This is seen as great progress especially because the judge has been adjourning the case without hearing since SMUG filed in June 2016, this is a ray of hope as the case seems to be heading in the right direction.
