Sexual Minorities Uganda would like to disassociate from the ongoing allegations by a cross section of individuals with the aim of associating the LGBTI community in Uganda for being the main “sponsors” of certain social, political or economic activities. While we encourage and respect each individual’s right to freely participant in any social, political and economic activity as enshrined in our Constitution, SMUG is dismayed by the continued slander by some individuals whose aim is to score political capital by maligning the LGBTI community. We call upon the LGBTI community to exercise vigilance as they go about their day to day activities.

This advisory follows the continued scapegoating of the LGBTI community by individuals whose actions if not checked, undermines the safety of the LGBTI community in Uganda.
